Mountain Presence
A noble, silent strength
    glimmers
    on the lake.
    Here now,
    yet not here.
An invisible great blue
    heron arrives
    wading in the water,
    evidence of such only in
    ripples and reflection.
    Here now,
    yet not here.
Your deep, caring spirit
    remains on this journey
    to the mountains

    you loved so much,
   the place where each summer
   you
walked among the
   gathering pines

   and inhaled the light.
With your easy manner,
   you laughed
   and celebrated life,
   appreciating each line
   on every face encountered.
   Here now,
   yet not here.

The heron,
   You,
   reminders of
   what it means to
   Really just be here now.
-in memory of Mark D Westlake

 Looking Back and Facing Forward
     Looking back across the well-trodden
path of experience, you remember
how you stumbled over slippery rocks
and almost didn't make it back from
that last crazy adventure.

You remember how each one of those stumbles
led you the place that you're
standing at, right now.
You are grateful for each rough patch,
for each hidden pool,
for each encounter along the way.
They don't define you, yet you choose to hold onto
the best of each struggle -
strength, tenacity, beauty, love.
Now you are here - facing forward into an
unknown future, stronger than you were before,
ready to take the next step along a
yet-to-be-defined path forward.

Rosie and Ruby
That first moment of meeting,
looking into each other's eyes,
Daughter and mother, Mother and daughter.
No going back to what was before;
we've fallen head first into a new life, a new love,
the beginning of a lifelong tie – a dance of
playing and working,
laughing and crying,
holding tight and letting go.
When it's time to fly away,
hearts touch and grow closer,
even as the space between them
grows more distant.
- Reflection on the ties that hold us together and give us strength

Life Finds a Way.

Both the Century Plant and Spiny Lizard seem to be in conversation with one another; perhaps they both hold some ancient wisdom of the desert.

Conspirators

Just a quick sketch of my garden and the rabbits I both love (and hate, when they eat my veggies).
